It is a great pleasure for us to present you with a second edition of Underground Construction Sweden in Focus. The first issue of this publication appeared in 1996, and many new tunnelling projects have been undertaken since then. We are pleased to update you accordingly.

From all the underground construction works carried out by Swedish contractors at home and abroad, we have chosen nine projects, one of which is in Iceland. All these projects have one important factor in common: they all required an imaginative engineering approach to solve specific problems.

Our aim has been to present these projects in a concise way, with several descriptive illustrations, in order to give the reader a clear impression of the current state of the art of underground rock construction in Sweden. For those seeking further information, we have given the names of persons involved in each project, who may be contacted for further technical details.

”Underground Construction” is produced jointly by BK (the Swedish Rock Construction Committee), and SveBeFo (the Swedish Rock Engineering Research Foundation), two organizations that together cover research and application of underground construction techniques.
