This report is grounded in the doctoral thesis titled Geosystem Services to Support
Planning and Management of the Subsurface. The thesis explores the concept of
geosystem services as a framework for recognising, assessing, and incorporating
subsurface resources and functions into spatial planning and decision-making. It aims to
bridge the gap between geoscientific knowledge and practical planning needs by
highlighting the value of subsurface contributions to societal and environmental systems.
The findings, analytical approaches, and conceptual developments presented in this report
are derived from the original research conducted during the PhD project. To suit the
format and communicative purpose of this report, the content has been adapted in terms
of language and structure, while maintaining the integrity of the underlying scientific
work.
The work was supported by supervisors Jenny Norrman, Lars O. Ericson & Yevheniya
