The report presents comparative measurements and certain difficulties associated with the new so-called HTPF method, which, however, has advantages in certain special applications.
This report presents the results from rock stress measurements conducted in the vertical, 508 m deep LuH borehole, located at the campus of Lulea University of Technology. The measurements were conducted during the winter 88/89 and spring 1989. The rock stress measurements were done by use of two hydraulic testing methods; hydraulic fracturing and hydraulic tests on preexisting fractures (HTPF). The primary objectives of this study were; (i) to compare the methods with each other, both with regard to field work and obtained information on the far field stress situation, (ii) to obtain reliable information on the stress magnitudes and stress orientations in the area.

The projects aim was to support the development of new measurement methods that can provide reliable data on rock stress conditions at reasonable costs. The project was partly funded by the Swedish Research Council for Natural Sciences.
